With YA and middle-grade books comes the opportunity to illustrate the cover, and occasionally a handful of interior illustrations. I love the excuse to drop everything and read a manuscript before getting started on sketches!
Here are a handful of book covers I’ve done over the years. My very first publishing illustration assignment was for Jenny Han’s chapter book, Clara Lee and the Apple Pie Dream. That book was how I met my agent, Emily Van Beek! We’ve since worked together for a dozen years now, on more than a dozen books!
